Taming.io Pet Evolution: Baby, Adult, Boss and Pet Levels
Published · Updated · 3 min read
Every animal in Taming.io exists at one of three stages: baby, adult and boss. You can only tame sleeping babies, so every pet you own starts small and grows as it earns XP from animals, bosses and other players. This post covers what changes at each stage, what happens after a pet reaches the boss stage, and why a fixed tier list does not tell the whole story.
Baby, adult, boss: the starter pets compared
The three starter pets, the Wolf, the Rabbit and the Bear, all live in the Forest biome and each has a different type and skill. Their stats change a lot between stages. These are the health and bite damage values listed on the official Taming.io wiki:
| Pet | Type | Skill | Baby HP / damage | Adult HP / damage | Boss HP / damage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wolf | Fire | Deflagration | 200 / 6 | 400 / 12 | 1000 / 30 |
| Rabbit | Plant | Vampiric Weed | 150 / 3 | 250 / 4 | 700 / 14 |
| Bear | Water | Ocean Wave | 300 / 4 | 600 / 8 | 1500 / 19 |
Skills also scale with the stage. The Wolf’s fire whirlpool, for example, has a 30-second reload as a baby and 25 seconds as a boss. A wild Big Mamma Boss is a larger form again, but tamed animals cannot reach it.
Pet levels after the boss stage
Once a selected pet (one you picked from the menu or spawned from a potion, not a wild animal tamed during the match) reaches its boss stage, any further XP goes toward its pet level. The wiki gives the XP needed for the next level as 36n² + 684n + 300, where n is the current level, so each level takes longer than the last. Each level gives a stat point you can put into one of six stats:
- Weight: more knockback and more damage to buildings.
- Speed: faster movement.
- Attack: stronger bites.
- Health: higher maximum health.
- Regeneration points: more health healed per tick.
- Regeneration speed: less time without damage before healing starts.
Pets level up to 60. At level 60 a pet can be overbred, which resets it to level 0 but gives it 20 extra stat points each time.
Where pet XP comes from
According to the wiki, a defeated baby animal usually gives 50 XP, an adult 100, a boss-stage animal 400 and a Big Mamma Boss 1,200. Animals that belong to another player give only a tenth of that. Some species, such as the Vulture, Cow and Raven, earn 19% more XP than others, while many legendary animals earn 20% less.
Unlocking pets for good
Taming an animal counts toward that species’ tame total. When any non-starter species reaches 50 tames, it is unlocked permanently and you can pick it at the start of a game. The Wolf, Rabbit and Bear are unlocked from the start.
Why types matter more than a tier list
The game has fourteen types, from Normal and Rock to Dragon, Fairy and Ancient. Types change how much damage animals deal to and take from each other, and an animal with two types combines both. The wiki notes, for example, that the Wolf deals extra damage to Plant, Insect and Ice pets, and that Water and Rock pets take more damage from the Forest’s Tree Boss. A pet that is strong in one fight can be a poor pick in the next, so the best “tier” depends on what you are fighting.
